November 1, 2010 Amy Fisher, Never a boring bite at German Village Eatery
"I hesitate to abuse phrases such as their tagline, "ingredient driven," however, with such successful results from the father/son chefs/proprietors, Kevin and Patrick Caskey, they could call it supercalifragilistic and serve expialidocious food on top of a newspaper, and I would still be there, fork in hand"

"The pumpkin black-bean soup" "is a smooth, thick puree dotted with whole black beans. It has a tomatolike tartness to go with its peppery flavor, which sets it apart from most other black-bean soups, and is decorated with pumpkin seeds - another offbeat touch."

Restaurant Review of Skillet. "A cozy lunch joint near German Village offers daring dishes with big flavor". "Better than darn good was the Braised Beef Short Rib and Smoked Gouda sandwich enhanced by fried sweet peppers. Slather on some of the sharply flavored apple-horseradish sour cream- served as a side - and it was heaven.."

"Best Casual: Skillet, 410 E. Whittier St. Skillet very quietly opened its doors a few months ago on the outskirts of German Village. The eatery serves remarkable sandwiches on a daily basis, and it’s not the same old deli stuff. Instead, it offers concoctions made with, for example, soft stewed beef and serious cheeses (the smokiest gouda, the sharpest cheddar). On a scale of 1 to 10, the quality rates about an 11."

"Skillet, which calls its food "Rustic Urban" (and with sandwiches this good, they can call their cuisine style "Worldwide Pants" and it'd be fine with me) has set up shop in the tiny spot on Whittier..."
